Leave a Legacy
Thank you for considering a meaningful gift to support the future of agriculture. The Lee County Farm Bureau (LCFB) Foundation is proud to serve our Mission to support ag related educational opportunities for the youth of Lee County. One great way we do that is through our scholarship program.
Currently, the Lee County Farm Bureau Foundation offers scholarships for students pursuing agricultural careers, from high school to undergraduate, and also for veterinary school. We are proud of the role that we are able to play in helping students fund their college education, and we would love to do even more. We are always interested in further serving our mission by supporting individuals or organizations that wish to establish a scholarship fund.
Establishing a scholarship fund in the name of a family member is a meaningful way to honor his or her legacy while supporting future generations. In order to establish a scholarship fund with the Lee County Farm Bureau Foundation, please consider the following options and parameters:
Named Scholarship: By establishing an agreement or scholarship fund with the Lee County Farm Bureau Foundation in accordance with the gifting the options below, we would be pleased to include and offer a named scholarship in memory of your loved one. You may direct both the naming and eligibility related to the scholarship.
Eligibility: As a donor, you may direct specific wishes as to the type of student who would be eligible to receive a scholarship. Pursuing certain agriculture related careers, graduating from a certain school district, active participation in FFA or 4-H, are all examples of attributes that donor families may selecte as meaningful to them, or the person they are honoring with a named scholarship. In order to fall within the parameters of our scholarship program, we would request the following eligibilities be included:
Involvement: As a donor, you may choose your level of involvement with student selection. The LCFB Foundation can handle all review and selection, or if the family wishes, they can review and recommend recipients from all applicants, or a smaller number of finalists. This can be tailored to your wishes and level of time commitment. The Lee County Farm Bureau Foundation will share recipient information with you each year. A representative from your family would also be able to present the scholarship recipient with their winning scholarship if you would so desire.
Gifting Options: Scholarships may be established in one of the following manners:
Permanent Endowment- By making a one-time large gift, you can direct us to permanently restrict those funds and only gift off of the interest earned. This way, you and your family can confidently know that this named scholarship will continue on in to perpetuity. Based on current interest rates, it requires a $30,000 contribution to gift one $1,000 scholarship annually. This is a minimum amount set both for permanent endowments and annual scholarship award amount.
Temporarily Restricted Fund- Same rules apply as a permanent endowment, except in this manner of gifting, the funds are earmarked specifically for your named scholarship, but the LCFB Foundation can spend from the principal gift if needed to cover the minimum $1,000 scholarship annually. A minimum $10,000 contribution is required for this option.
Annual Contribution- You may choose to make an annual gift to cover the amount of scholarships you wish to give. The LCFB Foundation would ask you to enter a contractual agreement to continue funding a minimum of one $1,000 scholarship for a five year period ($5,000 total) in order to establish a named scholarship.
Timeline: Each year, our scholarship program opens for applications on December 1st. If you would like to have a scholarship established and ready to give in the next program year, it would need to be in place by September of the current calendar year.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, and we hope that you consider this as a great opportunity honor your family’s legacy or the legacy of a loved one.
